Chapter 419: Reaching the Heavenly City
Chapter 419: Reaching the Heavenly City
After spending the night in Jeleira's underground cave while using her body both as a not-so-comfortable pillow and a blanket that provided me with the heat necessary to not be bothered by relying on my statistics to survive it, I crawled out of it through the tunnel suited for her size while trying to not curse my luck.
Sleeping in an underground hole made me miss the morning!
Rushing back to the village by recalling what kind of road did Jeleria took me through, I hoped that my guide wouldn't be busy with his newfound sweetheart, making him salty after I would pull him out of her and forced to do what he offered himself to do! After all, I was the one who made his childhood-friend-or-something even look at him, not to speak about her spreading her legs open for him, so now it was his turn to repay this favour!
"You are finally back, sir!"
Contrary to my expectations, the guy I was already cursing in my mind about, instead of getting busy with the girl standing right beside him, was patiently waiting in what most likely served as the village main square. With his usual clothes consisting of no clothes but a damned loincloth wrapped around his hips and a walking stick longer than the guy himself, he was the very picture one would have in mind when speaking about the lowest kind of beggars, travelling the world with nothing but hope that lucky encounter would change their fate from starvation to a bright future.
"Yeah. I was held back for a while. Sorry for being late."
As soon as the greetings were done, the guy kissed his girl and moved forward.
"There is no point in waiting around. While the city isn't really that far, it will still take us some time to arrive there."
Instantly moving forward, what I thought to be a walking stick, turned out to be yet another of those silly spears, most likely aimed at repelling the wild animals that would most likely come our way.
I guess, he was right in trying to do all he could to protect himself. Not only he never had the chance to see my fighting prowess with how our earlier potential fight turned into an orgy, but he also had to come back all the way by himself after dropping me off at the city!
"You don't need to worry about going back. If we claim that I was a survivor from the continent that shows some strange hints of a hidden talent, you might be able to make them give you an escort back."
Rubbing the handle of my staff, I informed the guy while scanning the area with my energy vision. Just like on the Overlord's island, there was more than enough wildlife to feed a huge population out of it alone, also pointing out at the existence of rather formidable beasts.
For the local folk that is.
Despite having more than enough points to do so, I still kept my attributes low. Not only I didn't want to waste the opportunity for the vision coming from improving my wisdom, but I also preferred to appear less powerful to the people who would come to inspect me. Being able to instantly power-up would be my hidden card if it happened for the high ranks of the heavenly city owners to be even stronger than what I could content with my current strength augmented by the snakesbite!
Contrary to my expectations, the journey didn't take as long as it would seem like it would from the words of my guide. Just from the fact that in a mere hour of walking at an insanely slow pace we could already spot the hints of the city being in the distance it had to be either insanely great or rather close!
While common sense would dictate that located on an island, without the modern technology supporting it, there was only so much that a city could grow, I learned long ago that what I believed to be a common-sense didn't apply to most of the things that I experienced in this world. Just the medicinal herbs alone were enough to upset the balance of birth and death that kept the population in medieval cities in check, making them grow only thanks to the constant influence of the outsiders rather than their original population breeding fast enough to keep up with the mortality rate. The abundance of meat in the form of magic beasts and how little your average human had to eat it to completely fill his belly also limited how vast farmlands were always necessary to support such city.
Regretfully, when we finally reached the gates of the city, while it was a bit bigger than I expected it to be, it was nowhere as grand as I wanted it to be!
Buil by surrounding five, steep mountains with a sizeable wall, even from outside I could see grand buildings placed all over the mountainside, with characteristic typical for Chinese architecture. While such a coincidence would make me wonder a few weeks ago, for me now it only meant that the transmigrator with a system that influenced them simply hailed from that part of the world!
But I had to say, considering the details of those grand buildings that I could already tell to be the headquarters of various rivalling sects, one of the fellow earthlings of mine that stumbled upon this world a bit earlier than me, really knew his job!
"Halt! Who is coming?!"
Obviously, considering how this place served as headquarters for the entire nation, there was no way that in hell that we could just waltz in through the gate. Instead, my guide moved to the front and bowed deeply while signalling me to do the same.
Which I obviously didn't consider how the guard was on a similar level to the small fries that were dying from the collateral damage back when I was feeding system the experience points farmed from their lives!
"Subslave Keno reports!"
