Chapter 264 Five Days
For more than an hour, Cade and Kyran talked.
Normally, Kyran did not like people asking him questions, but Cade's questions made it easy to answer. In True Void's opinion, however, it was because 'Cade' was still the essence of Kyran's father, so the latter was acting partially.
Cade and Kyran's talk consisted mainly of what had happened to the Regis Clan and what Kyran did after the Royal Army raided the estate.
During Kyran's narrative, he noticed he no longer felt restless when talking about his clan's situation. At first, he thought maybe he had gotten used to it. In real-time, it was only close to a month since the army raided the Regis Estate, but to Kyran, it had been more than a year.
The more Kyran talked to Cade, Kyran realized the reason he no longer felt restless was that Cade's presence assured him. Notwithstanding Cade's strength, his ability to read ahead of a situation with little data left Kyran speechless.
For this reason, Kyran now fully understood why Nolan said his clan's situation was better off compared to him. As long as Cade was there, the estate would hold.
Kyran's grandfather was also there, who he only discovered was a powerful Elementor. As to what level his grandfather was currently at, Cade said that he was already half a step to Magus, and that was twenty years ago. Right now, he might already be one.
Last but not least were the Regis Elders. This additional information further gave Kyran assurance that even if a Magus attacked the estate, they would hold the fort.
Kyran did not hold any information from Cade. He told him about the Conclave and what he experienced in the Misty Forest. Although he did not say anything about what he and the previous Void Master had talked about, he still mentioned meeting him in his sea of consciousness.
True Void had not shown any reactions when Kyran said this. Even Cade only listened in silence.
Because of Cade's lack of reaction, Kyran's suspicion that his father already knew he would end up inheriting the Void magic even before he was born grew. Kyran still had reservations, though, because this did not appear to be the case when Cade and his grandfather went to the Alchemist Association when his magic had acted up. Deciding not to dwell on the subject, Kyran decided to ask True Void if he knew anything later.
Then Kyran continued his narrative by telling Cade his run-in with Byron. He even mentioned his plan in acquiring the Blue Lotus.
Hearing this earned him an amused smile from Cade, something Kyran rarely saw with his father.
Then he told him about Cyneah and how Nolan had met up with Anette. He also told Cade about employing the help of two other mercenaries, Gage and Silas. When Kyran spoke about Zephyr, Cade finally reacted.
"So the reason why you're not using the Regis techniques is that the tower sealed your Draconic core?" He asked.
Kyran nodded. Though he did not tell Cade about the tower sealing his Draconic core, he managed to guess it just by listening to Kyran.
"Yes," Kyran admitted. He looked at Cade's expression and wondered why he was not surprised to know he also possessed Draconic magic.
"That should not be the case," Cade told him with a slight smile. "Draconic magic energy is indeed stored inside your Draconic core, but you took a drop of a dragon's blood."
Cade raised his arms, and his eyes glowed silver. Slowly his pupils turned into slits, and rune writings appeared, circling his forearm.
"You can use a different type of magic as long as you know their rune form. This is true. The use of Regis techniques are the same; it uses Draconic runes. As to why we don't need to write them with our magic energy is because it is already written inside the blood of the dragon," Cade explained.
"The Draconic runes are present in the blood?" Kyran repeated in surprise. He had not thought of that. The Knowledge room did not mention any magic runes stored in the blood.
Cade's explanation cleared Kyran's doubts about selected members of the Regis Clan using Draconic magic.
Cade nodded, "Yes. Since you partook of the dragon's blood, it means you can still use it. Although, the effect will be different when you use it directly using Draconic magic."
True Void snorted and crossed his arms while sitting cross-legged in midair.
"I told him about the dragon's blood, but he doesn't believe me!"
Kyran looked at him with a dull expression, "You're explanation is lacking. And what do you mean I did not believe you? I did and even practiced it for a while. I just found it a little hard to do. And the effect is weak."
Cade chuckled and added, "If you're having difficulty in using the technique even after utilizing the dragon's blood, it means the blood flowing in you is weak."
"He took a sip of the Elixir, so he is in the process of amalgamation. That's why the Dragon King's blood is already weakening," True Void interjected.
Instantly, Kyran's brain seemed to have short-circuited.
Once again, True Void was off-handedly spouting important information. What he said answered some of the questions that were bugging Kyran. At the same time, it proved True Void probably knew all the answers to their questions.
Kyran forced himself to calm down before saying with furrowed brows, "What process? How come I'm only hearing this now? And how do you even know it when Zephyr never said anything to me?"
"I am the Void Master's partner," True Void snorted and replied matter-of-factly. "I know everything about him, including all the people he cared about. Besides, Zephyr is too young. He did not even meet the Dragon Lord. What does he know?"
'Young...' Kyran's brow twitched. It was true Zephyr's human form was a young boy, but looking at how long he had been alive, he could be called an elder. Then again, Zephyr was a real Quilin. How they calculated their age was different from humans.
Cade lowered his arm and looked at them in silence. He had been listening to their conversation, and for a moment, something flickered in his eyes. In the end, he shook it off by taking a deep breath. His expression turned solemn as if he was contemplating something and was hesitant to say it.
It was unfortunate that Kyran and True Void did not notice it. If they did, their conversation would have turned in a different direction.
"Fine. But stop interrupting," Kyran told True Void. Then he looked at Cade with an apologetic smile. "Sorry, we can ignore him for now."
"Humph! Fine, fine! Ignore me!" True Void grumbled but did not argue further.
Cade chuckled and said, "I know you have questions of your own. Why don't you ask me?"
Kyran fell silent for a moment before replying, "It's fine. I'll ask you— I mean, I'll ask father after saving the clan."
With a nod of his head, Cade replied, "Alright. It's good that you understand even if I am your father's essence, I am not him. The last memory my original self could transfer to me was twenty years ago.
"This means I can only guess what my original self thought of you."
Kyran nodded his head but did not say anything. He knew that the Cade in front of him was not his father. Apart from that, he did not have real emotions. His emotions were all based on the memories and experiences of what the original Cade had passed on.
For this reason, the Cade in front of Kyran did not show any strong emotion about him.
"Enough of that," Cade suddenly said and gestured with his hand for Kyran to continue, "Tell me the rest."
Nodding his head in agreement, Kyran continued with his narrative and told Cade about his encounter with the army's Special Ops.
When Cade heard of this, his eyes glinted maliciously, but only for a second. His speculations were finally taking form.
Kyran ended his recollection with him and Nolan meeting with Gustaff and coming to the Tower of Tribulation. The reason why he did not continue with his experiences inside the tower was that Cade stopped him. After all, Kyran's experience inside the tower was not relevant to their discussion.
"It seems the Grand Marshal is acting by himself this time," Cade said after a short pause.
Kyran nodded in agreement, "I think so too."
"When you get into the Blue Lotus, make sure to investigate the treasure trove thoroughly," Cade told him.
"I will."
Kyran did plan to investigate that place. After all, it could still be connected to the Lignum plane and might pose a danger in the future.
"It's best to know the Royal Family's movement as well," Cade told Kyran. "I don't think they will be left in the dark for long."
Without waiting for Kyran's reply, Cade waved his hand, and a golden medallion appeared before him.
The medallion was similar to the one Olivia had given Kyran, except it had the Regis symbol in the middle.
With a wave of his hand, Cade threw the medallion at Kyran, "If you find anything, contact me through this."
Kyran caught the medallion with his hand and nodded.
"I'll see if I can establish a connection with my original self through a different means. When I do, I'll let you know," Cade added.
This immediately gave Kyran something to look forward to. If he could tell his father all about his plans, it would add to its success.
"Thank you," Kyran replied as he tightened his grip around the medallion.
"Alright. Let's continued with the challenge," Cade suddenly announced as he stood up.
"W-We're continuing?" True Void asked, his voice trembling in apparent fear.
"Yes. I did say, we're only taking a break," Cade replied with a smile.
Seeing Cade's smile made Kyran shiver. He dreaded to hear the change Cade would do with the challenge.
Just as Kyran was thinking this, the half-sphere enclosing them started to crumble.
"I'm changing the challenge," Cade said and raised his hand with five of his fingers spread out. "You're staying here for five days."
"WHAT? FIVE?" True Void was the first to complain.
As for Kyran, he was not surprised. He also did not react much. Except, his complexion paled at once.
"In five days, I'll teach you a number of things."
Kyran smiled bitterly. The last time his father told him he would teach him for a week, they did end up learning for a week without rest.
"Try to keep up," Cade told Kyran with a slight smile.
"I'll do my best," Kyran replied with black lines on his head.
On the other hand, True Void raised his hand and said, "Can I pass?"
Kyran glared at him, and using his magic sense; he roused the shape-shifting plates into motion.
"Oi! Oi! Don't touch my body!" True Void complained.
The shape-shifting plates disengaged and flew directly to Kyran's arm.
"You know what to do," he told True Void.
"Tsk! Slave Driver! You are a slave driver!"
Cade watched them with raised brows. When the two finally settled, he chuckled and said, "Let's start."
And so, the new challenge had started.
==================
Inside the throne room at the Royal Palace, Euan sat on the throne, holding a white orb. His brows knitted as he read through the contents recorded inside.
"Can we trust this information?" He asked as he looked at the person, kneeling before him.
The person wore an oversized white hooded robe with golden linens. It was hard to tell what the person's gender was because of it.
"It is worth investigating," the person replied with a voice that was also hard to determine if it was a woman or a young man.
"First, Gray... and now... this," Euan said through gritted teeth. He tightened his grip around the white orb and stood up.
"Do what you must. Make sure no one else will find out your movements."
The person in the white hooded robe lowered its head further and replied, "Yes, your majesty."
A white mist seeped out of the person's robes, enveloping it which soon turned into a blinding gold light. In just a few seconds, the person vanished into thin air.
Euan looked at the spot where the person had left and his eyes glinted malevolently.
'Regis... to think you have hidden it so well.'
