Chapter 226 True Void (4)
"What?" Kyran exclaimed.
To only have three seconds was practically telling him to return and die. What could he possibly accomplish in three seconds?
"Don't worry. Your body has been blessed by the Dragon King and—."
"My Draconic core is sealed right now. I can't use any Regis techniques to enhance my physical abilities."
The furball gaped at him again, "Seriously, I don't know if the lightning had muddled your brain already or you're simply stupid."
"Oi—."
"You have dragon's blood flowing in your veins! You also drank the Elixir which tempered not only your flesh but your bones! Didn't you notice your punch landed solidly earlier? That's because your body is already comparable to a baby dragon!"
'B-Baby,' Kyran's brow twitched.
Putting the 'baby dragon' comment aside, Kyran felt his head throb from these revelations. He did consume a drop of dragon's blood when he was younger, but the key phrase there was 'a drop.' Was having a drop of dragon's blood enough to say he had dragon blood in his veins? As for the Elixir, how would he know that it could temper his body? He almost died from the pain he experienced then!
"Your punch can kill normal being—scary, but it can't kill nor put a scratch on a sovereign that had a puny physical defence."
"A Sovereign?"
Hearing it again made Kyran recall how the red-coated man called himself the Sovereign of this plane.
'So it was not a self-proclaimed title? He really is a Sovereign? But what does it mean?' He wondered.
The furball stopped hopping around and looked at Kyran. He belatedly realized he had said too much. If his master were here, he would chew him alive. But since he was not, then maybe he could tattle some more. Hehehe.
"The world is vast, new Void Master—err... Void Halfling."
"Oi."
"Sovereigns are mages who succeeded in reaching the Higher Realm," the furball continued, ignoring Kyran's look of irritation. "Once a mage becomes a Sovereign he will have the ability to enter other planes. Some sovereigns love to visit, either to destroy a plane, or rule it. Such as what happened to the Spirits Plane and this plane, until my master resolved them. Well, the balance in this plane was supposed to have been restored but that Sovereign, that red-coated man, seems to love this place and had not given up."
At first, Kyran listened simply to understand if the red-coated man was someone he could deal with eventually. But the more he heard the furball's explanation, the more he felt his scalp go numb.
If the higher realm the furball talked about was the same one Nolan told him his predecessor reached, then it meant the red-coated man was higher than a Magus, an Arch Magus, or a Legendary! It also proved that his predecessor did reach a far higher realm, a Sovereign. It would also explain how his predecessor came to this plane. As a sovereign, he could travel into other planes.
How Kyran looked at the world changed in an instant. All this talk about planes and sovereigns made him realize how small the Ylfaen Empire was. His situation probably appeared trivial compared to what was happening to the other planes.
However, to Kyran, the Regis Clan was far more important than anything. He was no savior that would concern himself with matters outside his clan. His predecessor appeared to be a busy body who meddled with other planes' situations, but in the end, did he not die in his original plane?
The furball sighed, sensing Kyran's thoughts. As much as he wanted to defend his master, the truth was, he also did not know how he died. Because before the decisive battle with the Soul Emperor, his master already took his spirit. At first, he protested, wanting to stay by his master until the end. Alas, his master just smiled and told him his end would come but not that day.
Pushing all of these sad thoughts at the back of his mind, the furball continued, "Anyway, that's all I can tell you right now. My master was right, you are not yet ready."
Kyran's brow furrowed at this. Not many people knew that one of the things he hated the most was being told he was not ready.
"Don't get worked up," the furball hastily said, sensing Kyran's annoyance. "My master did say that, but the truth, he was the one whose not ready. BAHAHAHA! His consciousness can only appear if you've met certain requirements, after all. Don't tell him I told you that."
Kyran, annoyed by the furball's previous words, felt like he was doused with cold water by the sudden shift in the mood. But he decided to let it slide because he also understood that there were things that should be discussed at the right time. And now was not the right time to talk about the past.
There were things Kyran had to do first. Once he settled those, he did not mind devoting himself to finding out the whole truth about his predecessor and what happened in the past. Besides, if he did not set his priorities right, he'd be dead today!
"Now, will you remove my seal? Though I said we can talk as sloooow as we want here, it will not stop your imminent death," the furball reminded him.
"Alright," Kyran replied.
If the furball had requested his seal to be removed before Kyran saw the magic array his predecessor had made, he probably would be a little hesitant.
After all, the seal he wanted to be removed was made by Kyran's father. Compared to his father, Kyran's Array attainment was definitely that of a 'halfling.' Proof of that; he did not even sense that there was still a seal in his magic cores.
"I'll start now." Kyran declared, adjusting his mindset at once.
"Sure~. Don't take your time, though. Right about now, if your brain is fried, then it's instant death to both of us. If you wanted to die don't take me along! Seriously, why did you not even leave any child behind! "
"Who told you to illegally reside in my magic core? And I'm only eighteen, I'm not even married!"
"So what? When we survive this, go find a woman and make a child!"
Kyran ignored him and started focusing on his central core.
"One last thing before you completely ignore me," the furball interrupted his thoughts.
Kyran's brow twitched. He really could not have any privacy in his sea of consciousness. It was supposed to be his consciousness, yet everything he was thinking got exposed from all the illegal tenants!
"Stop referring to me as 'the furball,' okay? I may not be a human, but I already have a spirit. I also get hurt being treated like a furball."
"Fine. What will I call you then?" Kyran replied. He admitted that referring to this furball as a furball felt a little strange. Like he could not take him seriously.
"I already told you. Refer to me as True Void. Actually, that's my name. Pretty cool, right?"
'Is it?'
"Oi!" Now it was his turn to feel insulted.
"I'm going to work on your seal now, quiet down," Kyran changed the subject.
He was still worried about recreating the plates as soon as he returned because he only had three seconds to accomplish it. If he failed, the result was his death. But amidst his worries, Kyran also admitted feeling a little eager to try it. Once he got a full grasp of creating things and recreating them when they got destroyed, it would become one of his trump cards.
"Sure, sure."
But before Kyran could start, True Void spoke again, "Oh, one last thing."
Kyran frowned, "Just how many one last thing do you have?"
"This is the last one. Seriously."
Kyran could only sigh and reply, "Go ahead."
"Once the seal is broken, focus on summoning those plates. The Sovereign will definitely feel something is wrong once I absorbed the black lightning. Before that happen, wait for my signal then warp to the tower."
Kyran looked at him with wide eyes.
"The red-blood tower? I can't even get close to it."
"That is because there are barriers preventing any creature with not enough magic energy from getting close. To pass each barrier, you needed a certain amount of magic energy. Did you notice that you are able to get close until the third obelisk before you felt the barrier's restriction? It is because your magic energy is no longer enough to enter the next one," True Void explained.
"I see, that's why. Once you absorbed the black lightning, I will have enough magic energy to pass through."
True Void hopped around, "Yes! That kind of barrier is a signature move of the red-coat Sovereign. That red-blood tower is not there when my master restored this plane. The Sovereign most likely built that to counter the obelisks. Destroy that tower, and I will help re-activate all of the obelisks. Once that happened, magic energy will flow in this plane once again and will gradually restore balance. The Sovereign will be pissed and will definitely come after you, though."
"He definitely will want me dead," Kyran agreed. "If restoring this plane's balance is the purpose of my training, I will get transported back to the tower. But if not, then I have to stay until I find it. When that happens, I don't know how long I can run away from that man."
The thought of running away was not discouraging for Kyran. If running away meant he could keep his life, he would. As long as he was alive, he would be able to come up with a counterattack.
"Don't worry, you have me." True Void said pompously.
Kyran could only look at him with a straight face. At the moment, True Void did not sound convincing with his deep voice yet had a furball form.
