Chapter 237: Azure Palace Disaster
Chapter 237: Azure Palace Disaster
Elliot wanted to run. He wanted to move. His mind was telling him to escape, but his body was frozen in place.
The Azure King stood fifty foot tall. Tall enough so it's shoulders would reach the tall ceiling of the large Azure Palace hallway. It was leaning forward, slowly walking to the corner where Elliot was.
It was equiped with a dark blue armor that hugged its body like a skin. Its head was covered with a metal mask that was welded into a helmet. There was also a tall crown that sat on top of its head perfectly, seemingly weaving into the helmet and the metal mask like it was part of the armor.
And as for Elliot, he didn't know if what he is seeing is an illusion or if he's actually in the past. But there was only one thing that he was sure of.
The ominous aura coming from the Azure King felt so real. As it take a step towards him, the intense aura coming from it felt more suffocating. He had seen many enemies before, but they were nothing compared to this.
When the Azure King reached him, Elliot stared at it. He was looking up, gulping when the giant beast stopped right in front of him.
"Do you think they're dead?" Elliot heard an Adventurer from the adjacent hallway asked. He wanted to run and tell them to escape but his body wouldn't let him.
"The Azure King must've killed them already. Barricade the door so they can't escape!"
He was glued in place as he waited for his fate, listening to the deep breathes of the giant Azure King right in front of him.
A few more minutes had passed and Elliot heard a wooden object being slammed into another wooden object. Even when his curiousity wanted to be fed, he can't let his guard down. The Azure King might destroy him once he turns around.
"I see, you're only here." There was a deep exhale that escaped from Elliot's lips after he heard Madam Locraine spoke.
The woman with the dark green sequin dress walked over to him, ignoring the Azure King that was right in front of them.
"Why are you so sweaty, child?" Madam Locraine asked and took a fan out from nowhere. She raised the fan and let Elliot enjoy the gentle breeze from it. She wasn't even moving the fan yet there was wind coming from it.
"C-Can't it see us?" Elliot asked, his eyes never leaving the beast. It was still standing there, not doing anything at all.
"The Mirror of Secrets hold memories," Madam Locraine spoke. "But it does not have the power to turn back time. So, essentially, you're only seeing a piece of the past but you're not really there."
"And those people" Elliot trailed off. For the first time since the Azure King showed up, he looked away from it. "I was told they'll be killed. Is it true?"
"Killed?" Madam Locraine chuckled. "Oh no, child."
Elliot wanted to ask why. Lance told him that the guilds against Pentos were killed by the Azure King when Pentos and the other guild was locked inside the throne room.
Before he could ask, there was another sound of wood slamming into another wood. He took a peek and saw that the other Adventurers were adding beams to lock the throne room. After the beams, they used earth magic to create pillars right outside the door to prevent it from opening.
Elliot's attention was so focused on them that he didn't notice that the Azure King started walking past him. It made its move by slowly dragging its sword to the Adventurers, turning from the corner and standing behind all of the Adventurers.
"You said he's not gonna kill them," Elliot asked Madam Locraine and looked at her. "Why does he look like"
His ear was filled with painful screams and plea for help. Blood rained on the small hallway as the almost one hundred Adventurers were killed. It took only a minute for the Azure King to massacre the Adventurers. Elliot could only cover his mouth with his hands as he saw how gruesome the scene was.
There was ice everywhere and they were tainted with blood. In fact, the whole hallway was red.
"The Azure King didn't kill them," Madam Locraine sighed. "He annihilated them."
Elliot turned to her, "And Pentos?"
"Inside the throne room," Madam Locraine answered. "It will take them time before they could get out. They're shivering in fear right now after feeling that intense aura and the aura of the Adventurers outside vanish one by one."
"T-They couldn't defeat the Azure King?" Elliot asked. "But I heard they're powerful. I know if they would work together well enough, then they could beat anything."
"You're living in a made up world, child," Madam Locraine said. "A member of Pentos can kill three dragons at once but even when the five of them work together, they couldn't defeat any King. The Kings are what sits before the power of an Eternal."
"W-What if an unawakened Eternal would fight a King?" Elliot asked. "And they would have the Twilight Bless. That power is immense, it could"
There was a strong wind that passed through Elliot. He knew the wind came from the plump woman in front of him, but why she did it was the question in his mind.
"Time to go back," Madam Locraine said and tapped her fan on the wall three times. The surroundings felt like they were glitching before Elliot found himself in the chamber of the antique items.
"How do you know about the Twilight Bless?" Madam Locraine asked directly. "Tell me, Elliot."
"Polschk Noberene," Elliot answered. "He worked for the royal family as the chief of the agriculture before. He told me about it. He even has the Twilight Wings with him."
"Impossible," Madam Locraine gasped. "I threw the Twilight Wings in the river myself. I had them in a cage fortified with layers of high level of magic so no one would be able to open them."
"The Twilight Wings would spawn back when it is covered with dirt," Elliot said. "Maybe it's the same case with water?"
Madam Locraine felt like her world stopped spinning. She looked like she was about to fall down and Elliot was going to catch her when three people appeared behind the woman.
These three people looked like they were high-level Stealth Knights that had already advanced to Assassins.
They caught Madam Locraine and one of them was carrying a chair for her to sit on.
"What is wrong, Madam Locraine?" Elliot asked.
"We're doomed, child," the woman cried. "There is no way any of us is capable of harnessing the Twilight Bless."
