Chapter 185: Road to Liga NOS Champions 2019/20 XII
{GOALLL!!!}
{And just before halftime, Porto strike first!}
{What a pass from Jason, and the team’s striker didn’t disappoint, making sure to smash the ball past the goalkeeper}
{With that, the managers of both teams will have to come up with a new tactic during halftime} The commentator went wild with his commentary while the Porto team celebrated their goal.
The celebrations didn’t take time and the ball was soon back in motion with both teams once again going at each other’s necks.
With the momentum they had from scoring first, the Porto team tried to score another goal against the Belenenses team before the first half was over, but the Belenenses side put up a fight, doing their best to secure a fighting chance for themselves in the first half.
The Belenenses team managed to hold out against the Porto team until the whistle to signify the end of the first half was blown after which the players of both teams walked off the field and headed for the locker rooms.
In the Porto locker room, Sergio Conceicao praised his player’s performance so far but kept mentioning that the players could do more in the second half.
He wanted them to be out of sight of the Belenenses team and the players couldn’t help but agree with him.The Belenenses locker room was filled with even more determined voices as the Belenenses manager tried to convince his players that going behind the current league leaders in the first half didn’t mean much.
Comebacks were a thing in football no matter how impossible it may look to be and the Belenenses manager believed that his players had it in them to pull off such a performance, or at least score an equalizer and hold out till the end of the match.
The worst-case scenario he was willing to accept from his players was his players holding the Porto team at one goal, thus not worsening their goal difference and making it harder to overcome relegation.
Unfortunately, things did not always go as one wanted them to, especially when what you were expecting was something that would only happen in fairy tales.
Barely 13 minutes after the second half started, Porto struck the back of the Belenenses goal once again, putting an end to all the extravagant ideas in the head of the Belenenses manager.
While the Porto team had been oppressing the Belenenses team with strategic possession-style football, the ball had ended up with Jason who had immediately laid off the ball to Fabio Viera in the center.
Fabio Viera had then found Moussa Marega in the box and on receiving the ball, Marega had held off his marker as he turned around and sent a thunderous shot at the goal.
The Belenenses goalkeeper was no match for the shot and despite his efforts, the ball escaped from him and hit the back of the net sending them further away from their hopes coming into the match.
{GOALLL!!!}
{They’re up to two now and are gradually pulling away from their opponents!}
{What a splendid team goal!} As usual, the commentator did his job on the mic while the players celebrated.
The Porto fans in their homes and other places celebrated their team drawing further away and taking another step closer to the league title.
Another source of good news for the Porto fans was that the Benfica team which was also playing that night was currently losing their match so it was looking even better for the Porto team because if this stayed the same, then the Porto team was already almost guaranteed the title as long as they didn’t mess up.
Of course, the Porto players didn’t know about this as they were currently on the field and had no access to such information so the only thing that was currently on their mind was to obliterate their opposition.
Soon it turned from bad to worse for the Belenenses team when a shot from Jason bounced off a Belenenses defender’s hand inside the Belenenses penalty box in the 72nd minute of the game.
A penalty was immediately called but the Belenenses players tried to argue that the ball had come at the player instead which had only elongated the matter unnecessarily.
In the end, the referee had to check with the VAR after which he still allowed the penalty.
The Belenenses team was distraught but there was nothing they could do about it.
Telles took up the ball to take the penalty and all the other players except the Belenenses goalkeeper stepped out of the Belenenses 18-yard box.
Putting the ball and stepping back, Telles waited for the referee to blow the whistle.
The Belenenses goalkeeper also readied himself for the penalty while everyone waited for the whistle.
*Fweeeeeee*
Telles ran at the ball and swung hard, hitting the ball at the top right corner of the goal while the unfortunate Belenenses goalkeeper dived at the bottom right corner of the goal and could only watch the ball go into the back of the net above him even though he had tried to correct his mistakes by raising his hand.
Unfortunately, once one was Valhalla bound at the speed of sound, there was little one could do to correct their direction.
The Porto team erupted in celebrations for the third time that match as the commentator got on the mic.
{GOAL!!!}
{Porto have their third goal of the match from a penalty that was taken by the ever-reliable Alex Telles!}
{They are gradually pulling clear here and leaving no chances for their opponents!}
The Belenenses players were already feeling like shit and there was not even a straight face on any of the players on the team.
There were only negative expressions on every Belenenses player’s face.
The manager’s face was even more of a sight, contorted into an ugly expression like it was. It looked like the face of a baby that had had his candy stolen.
The most pained ones however were the Belenenses fans, after all, it was one thing to expect a loss and it was another thing to actually see it happen.
They were prepared for the loss, but unprepared for the shock that came with the loss as they had made the mistake of having hope.
Unfortunately for the Belenenses fans, the horror movie titled “Porto vs Belenenses” wasn’t yet over as barely eight minutes after the 3rd goal, Jason unleashed a daring run from midfield, weaving his way through three Belenenses players before chipping a pass over a fourth Belenenses player into the path of a hungry Fabio Viera.
Viera had quickly gotten the ball under control before smoothly sending a beautiful curler into the top left corner of the Belenenses goal.
The unlucky Belenenses goalkeeper once again had his efforts at saving the ball invalidated by the Porto team and could only watch his team fall behind even further.
{GOALLLLL!!!}
{Over the hills and far away, no catching them now!}
{Jason cooks! Viera serves!}
{We once again see this duo in action, producing the most excellent of goals, and they are ruthless with it!} The commentator could not keep himself silent even if he wanted to, especially as inspiration was flowing as he saw the ball fly into the net once again.
As the commentator unleashed his poetics, the Porto team was celebrating wildly, not caring about the mental state of their opponents because they knew the cold hard truth of the footballing world.
The respect a bigger team shows to a smaller team would almost never be replicated.
If a smaller team defeated a bigger team, their celebrations would be wilder than ever, and a lot of times, the celebrations were even disrespectful and offensive, so why should they not celebrate if the same would be done against them?
Thus they celebrated joyously.
Surprisingly, before the match kicked off again, the manager called for a substitution and took off Jason and Viera for Luis Diaz and Jesus Corona respectively.
The Porto fans were surprised by the manager’s decision to take off the two youngsters, especially as those two had been major headaches for the Belenenses team throughout the match and they had been playing well.
The major point was that neither of them looked to be especially exhausted or even injured so the Porto fans were puzzled, but they still applauded the two players from their homes and watched the two of them jog off the pitch.
They had already won the game at this point anyway so there was no issue with doing something like this anyway, the Porto fans thought.
The Belenenses fans on the other hand were overjoyed as the two torturers who had had a hand in every single goal against their team were finally walking off the field but their joy didn’t last for long.
Luis Diaz wiped away whatever relief was popping up in their hearts when he connected with Otavio’s pass behind the Belenenses back line to drive home a curler around the Belenenses goalkeeper and elevate his team’s lead even further in the second minute of added time.
{You know, part of the game is that it has to get ruthless, and the Dragons who are inherently ruthless creatures are fully displaying their ruthless nature on their unfortunate opponents who are nothing more than prey here in the house of the dragons}
{Belenenses’ plan at avoiding relegation has taken a huge hit and they have a lot to do to ensure that they can remain in the Liga NOS next season} The commentator couldn’t even shout anymore as even he was already feeling pity for the Belenenses team that were all laying around and looking like they lost the Champions League Finals.
After the kick-off, the Porto team immediately stole the ball back from the Belenenses team and began another attack, their hunger unsatiated even after the five goals they already had.
They were looking dangerous until the Belenenses team was saved from further mental damage by the referee blowing his whistle.
Thus the match came to an end with the scores of,
Porto 5 : 0 Belenenses.
